Reaching Gethsemane: Day 14 of Lent

32 They went to a place called Gethsemane; and he said to his disciples, “Sit here while I pray.” 33 He took with him Peter and James and John, and began to be distressed and agitated. 34 And he said to them, “I am deeply grieved, even to death; remain here, and keep awake.” 35 And going a little farther, he threw himself on the ground and prayed that, if it were possible, the hour might pass from him. 36 He said, “Abba, Father, for you all things are possible; remove this cup from me; yet, not what I want, but what you want.” -Mark 14:32-36

Also Matthew 26:36-39; Luke 22:39-42.

You just wanted their company didn’t you, Lord?

Not only for their sakes but for your sake…

in the darkness and the wrestling.

There are times for all of us when we simply need the company of our friends.

Thank you for the people who “company” us:

for those closest to us, for those who share with us,

especially when we’re in trouble.

As we remember them now, and name them in the stillness of our hearts,

and bless you for them,

bless each of them

according to their need.
