To Golgotha: Day 34 of Lent
After mocking him, they stripped him of the purple cloak and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him out to crucify him.
Mark 15:20
So they took Jesus; and carrying the cross by himself, he went out to what is called The Place of the Skull, which in Hebrew a is called Golgotha.
John 19:17
Response:
I’m glad that they allowed you to be yourself, Lord, in the clothes that you chose, for the path that you chose.
Not someone else’s picture of you,
or their idea of what a king should look like, or their idea of what glory is, or their narrow idea of love even.
Now we can see you yourself as you really are.
Paul was right:
we can see the glory of God in your face… tired and worn, bruised and bleeding, we can see true glory.
And now
as your passion unfolds before us we can see what is truth:
the truth about God, the truth about ourselves, the truth about sin, and the truth about Love, your forgiving, healing, redeeming Love.
Blessed Lord, help us to see and understand.
