Why Me: Day 5 Reflection

Mark 1:9-11

The Baptism and Testing of Jesus

At that time Jesus came from Nazareth in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan. 10 Just as Jesus was coming up out of the water, he saw heaven being torn open and the Spirit descending on him like a dove. 11 And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.”

Reflect.

Sit quietly and picture John and Jesus standing in the Jordan River. What feelings does the scene suggest to you?

Response.

Imagine what it looked and sounded like when the heavens opened and God spoke. Describe what you imagine.

Response.

Imagine yourself standing alongside Jesus in the water as God says, including you, “You are my beloved.” Let God’s words flow over you. What do you feel?

Response.

What individuals do you know who need to realize that they are precious to God and beloved? How can you help them to experience this truth?

Rest.

With your finger, trace the sign of the cross on your forehead or in your palm. Sit quietly and allow God to say to you, “You are my beloved. I delight in you.”

Pray a breath prayer.

For a breath prayer until your next time of reflection, consider praying, “Holy God, thank you for loving me.
