It is Finished: Day 43 of Lent
29 A jar full of sour wine was standing there. So they put a sponge full of the wine on a branch of hyssop and held it to his mouth. 30 When Jesus had received the wine, he said, “It is finished.”
John 19:29-30
Only John records this saying.
Response:
Love is so vulnerable and precarious
that it was always possible that Love would fail; but you, dear Lord, have not stopped loving…
and your great city of victory echoes against the darkened sky.
Your work is done. It is Finished!
O Savior of the world,
what you have done for us is wonderful and true.
You have achieved
victory
and Love is proved supreme;
a perfect sacrifice,
the self-offering of the Suffering Servant;
true revelation,
and the only Son has made plain the Father’s heart of love;
atonement,
for the Temple veil is sundered
and we have clear access to the Father;
reconciliation,
and we may now be reconciled to God;
and a new covenant,
so that now God can work in our lives.
You have accomplished more than we can understand!
Liberating Lord, this is breathtaking. We stand in awe and wonder-and adore you.
